Our client brief was for a two-bedroom summer house, with kitchen, dining, sitting, WC/changing and first floor office with views over the garden. Nearby a swimming pool, spa, plantroom etc within an enclosing high brick garden wall, glasshouse and meandering pathway in a Piet Oudolf inspired planted garden. The clayey ground type and the open-plan form of the building indicated a steel frame on a concrete ring beam and piled foundations with masonry walls and oak external boarding, the deep overhangs to the eaves give good shade and protection in sunshine.
