2 The Canvas House, Jubilee Yard , 25 Queen Elizabeth Street , London , Greater London , SE1 2NL , United Kingdom
A 1970's speculatively built detached house in a quiet lane close to Blackheath in south-east London, was completely reconfigured and transformed to create a spacious contemporary home. Limited daylight in the original house caused by large trees surrounding the property was remedied by the introduction of a large roof light over a centrally located stair. This, coupled with an entirely glazed rear elevation to a private courtyard, allows the ground floor to be flooded with natural light. Doors to the courtyard, which is floored in the same porcelain tiles as the interior, are designed to slide into the adjoining room creating a full width opening that seamlessly links the courtyard with the interior, producing a true indoor-outdoor living space.
