The 1967 Eveline Lowe school in Bermondsey was the first of the new open plan schools in Britain and holds a unique place in British educational history. Our brief was to refurbish the building and add a new upper school. We based our design on the existing garden spaces which now centre on a large central court. The new buildings develop a layout that continues and updates the spatial planning of the existing school.
