Listed Building - Grade I, Within a Conservation Area
The Old Music Hall , 106-108 Cowley Road , Oxford , OX4 1JE , United Kingdom
Jessop and Cook have an established relationship with Exeter College, having worked with them on various projects to decarbonise their historic Oxford buildings. Their brief for this project was to improve the accessibility, functionality, and energy efficiency of the Porter’s Lodge entrance. In-depth consultations, including a pre application process, took place between the college staff, design team, and conservation and planning teams at Oxford City Council to ensure the quality of the design and materials were appropriate for this key part of the College. Jessop and Cook undertook a lead designer role, and managed the project from concept to completion (including full Contract Administrator services). The resulting project includes installation of a platform lift, wood fibre internal wall insulation and secondary glazing, and bespoke carpentry to provide a vastly improved, accessible entrance which enhances the character of its Grade I listed setting.
