In 1998 the Prime Minister set a target to reduce the number of people sleeping rough by at least two-thirds by 2002. The target was met a year early and has been sustained every year since. Many of the people who have been helped off the streets have found a bed in a hostel as the first step in the transition back to independence and a settled home. Following the success of the Places of Change programme, Jennings Design have been working with several Homeless Accommodation providers to design the next generation of facilities which move beyond the stereotypical image of prison like accommodation to provide space that inspires the user to break the cycle of homelessness. The Homeless Facility currently being undertaken has been designed to meet and exceed the aspirations of the Places of Change Programme by improving the lives and environment of the homeless community - not merely by providing more beds, but better beds.
