The College vision was for a ‘statement’ building in an attractive setting which reflected the excellence of the College. It wanted to create a welcoming campus that encourages learning by integrating the teaching of vocational skills with real life business activity alongside the academic curriculum. Another key element was to create an environmentally sustainable building. Additionally the College wanted to embrace an intensive stakeholder and community consultation process. The completed campus for South Cheshire College leads education in Crewe and Nantwich into a new era. The College has embraced technology and innovation in all aspects of the design, however it could be said that the most successful and pioneering piece of innovation was the design process itself. The result is a building which as well as having the wow factor embodies the culture of the College and is a building where the users have a sense of ownership and place.
