Six new-build flats completed for The Soho Housing Association in a development that has won three major awards. The profile of the rear was generated by the need not to violate the daylight angles of existing flats on the other two sides of the courtyard, and this stepping back has in turn been used as an opportunity to provide south-west facing balconies for all upper flats. The ground floor flats are designed to disabled standards and share the landscaped courtyard. The site, accessed off a narrow cul-de sac and lacking virtually any storage space, presented a considerable challenge to the contractor LAD Construction who succeeded in overcoming initial local concerns by their thoughtful planning and sensitive diplomacy.
