St Luke’s (Cheshire) Hospice had the unique opportunity to obtain funding to expand their hospice facilities in the south Cheshire area, to allow for easier access to care for outpatients and provide a central location for the End of Life Partnership Team. The new facility was to provide office accommodation for multiple departments including education, dementia research, and outpatient care. Assistance was provided to St Luke’s (Cheshire) Hospice to obtain funding for the project, assess the best location for the facility and find suitable land, available in a central location to the area covered. Appointment was for full architect services from obtaining planning permission to production of detail drawings and contract administration. The building was completed within the required timescale to comply with the requirements of grant funding and within the client’s budget. Close client liaison was undertaken with the Hospice on the design to provide a rural external appearance that fits well in the locality. The interiors consisted of domestic scale small spaces to the client’s brief whilst maintaining a spacious feeling to the building as a whole. The decor was simple and neutral to create a comfortable environment for dementia patients.
