Janus Architecture was commissioned to design the conversion of a Methodist chapel into 9 individual luxury apartments with basement car park. The original building was a single storey chapel with a gallery seating area and small mezzanine Sunday school room. The building had previously been used as a workshop and was in a poor state of repair. During construction the building was underpinned to stabilise the walls and the roof structure was completely removed with the exception of one single queen post truss which was retained as a feature. The site was limited in space and the sequence of works on site was critical with the nature of the works. The project included party wall agreements due to the deep excavations close to the boundary.
