Our client wanted to transform their ordinary London terrace home, to create a spacious family home and to complete a contemporary overhaul, embracing the original design of the home but with a modern interpretation that reflects the owners style. On the ground floor we reconfigured the home with a sympathetic, contemporary take on the Victorian home. The new kitchen is set as the heart of the house, with a separate living room and dining room positioned at the front of the house, and a contemporary dining / family room at the rear of the property with large glazed doors opening onto the private garden. By adding pocket doors between zones we have allowed for on-going flexibility over the use of the space, allowing areas to be closed off or opened as needed. Externally the rear extension is clad with Vande Moortel buff bricks, similar in colour to the traditional London bricks of the original home but distinctly different in size and proportion, adding a sympathetic but contemporary point of interest to the extension. The transformation of the dwelling has delivered a four-bedroom family home, deliberately understated in architectural design with the original character of the house embraced and enhanced. The contemporary addition to the house has become the new focal point of the house, offering the much needed space for the growing family to live, socialise and enjoy.
