Hair stylist Ricky Walters brief was to re-imagine the 'Beauty Parlour' through transformative design. Salon 64 brings back the French Salon of the Enlightenment Era to London’s Vibrant Soho District. The original French salons played a central role in society providing both men and women with a place to gather to refine taste and inspire intellectual conversations around art, fashion and popular topics of the day. This served as the original driver behind the design and interiors creating a space for socialites of today. The ‘Fire Pit’ allows customers to socialise, relax and have their hair styled. Equally, the bar doubles up as a traditional champagne bar and a blow dry bar. The front lounge receives customers in an intimate setting encouraging tête-à-têtes. Other design features include a closed off washroom, private treatment room, a library of inspiration and a colouring lab. The luxurious and modern interior embraces materials such as oversized herringbone floors, a regal blue colour scheme and golden brash details with a modern take on the roman numerals 64 reflected in the tapestry. The design is tailored around the concept that we socialise through shared experiences. The ‘Fire Pit' is the magnum opus of the design. It features bespoke jewellery boxes designed to create a sense of comfort and ease. The opulent boxes open up from the marble table tops around the fire pit revealing several compartments; one for the hair stylist’s tools, a charging station for personal devices, a space to keep your jewellery safe while having hair and beauty treatments and a general space for magazines and drinks. Inside the top of the box features a mirror with adjustable lighting to suit the customer. Located in London’s Soho the unique design concept nods to the history of the area - a long established entertainment district and once known as the French Quarter of London by bringing the notions of the original French salons into the modern age. It was the client’s wish to disrupt the hair salon industry, which has remained largely unchanged in the last few decades, and transform the beauty parlour experience of the future. The pioneering salon is owned and run by hairstylist Ricky Walters, who made a name for himself through his time at Daniel Galvin at The Corinthia and John Frieda in London. Ricky Walters, Creative Director & Founder, Salon 64: “I wanted to re-conceptualise the beauty & hair salon experience to compliment the way people behave today. JaK Studio’s visionary and innovative design has played a major part in bringing this idea to life.”
