CONWY SCHOOLS PROJECT Construction work commenced on site in 2003 on the £36m Conwy schools project, which is funded under PFI. Jacobs Babtie is providing a range of professional services to Alfred McAlpine Special Projects for Conwy County Borough Council on the construction, refurbishment and facilities management of the three secondary schools involved in the project. The selection process began in March 2000 with Jacobs Babtie appointed preferred bidder in September 2000. To date, we have acted as Architect, Structural and Civil Engineer, Landscape Architect, Building Services Performance Designer, Environmental Assessor and Geo-environmental Designer on the project. The project includes the construction of the new-build 1,500-place John Bright School in Llandudno and the refurbishment and extension of 1250-place Aberconwy School, in Aberconwy, Conwy and 900-place Dyffryn Conwy School, in Llanrwst. Facilities Management services will be provided at all three sites for the next 25-years. Jacobs Babtie has been appointed by Alfred McAlpine Special Projects, which is part of a consortium including Alfred McAlpine Project Investment, Sodexho and HSBC. One of the key reasons cited in selection, as leader of the design team was the groups ability to provide a 'one stop shop' for all consultancy services from ground contamination surveys, civil and highways engineering through to architecture, landscape and interior design.
