To be televised on ITV's 'Homes Under the Hammer' Series 25, Watts Street is a 2-bed dwelling converted from a derelict Victorian butchers that achieved a certified EnerPHit rating, with energy costs yearly projected at less than £100. Fully sealed, triple glazed, and highly insulated, this Passive House retrofit is part of our large portfolio of truly sustainable construction. We reused all of the old timber joists to create decorative guarding to the split level areas and to create a feature stair to the two bedrooms upstairs. All the insulation is recyclable and sustainably produced and the foundation is formed of recycled glass. Airtightness was a major challenge in such an old and dilapidated building but careful detailing and working closely with the client and the builder help achieve the required levels for EnerPHit certification. The heating load is so low that only an occasional space heater is required on the coldest days. Developer-led, this project serves as a model for new housing in the midst of this climate crisis.
