Herondale Care Home is a short walk from the town centre of Acle, Norfolk. The care home formerly occupying the site had been redundant for a number of years, and Ingleton Wood were commissioned by Saffron Housing to design a replacement facility. Using the Norfolk County Council model for Extra Care Housing in Norfolk, the brief is to allow people over the age of 55 to remain independent within the local community whilst having the care and support provision made available to them as and when they require it. Following the demolition of the former home, Ingleton Wood designed a new 58 apartment building consisting of 1- & 2-bedroom flats in a two and three storey building. The accommodation is a mix of affordable rent and shared ownership, all for people over the age of 55. Ingleton Wood are providing architectural, planning, M&E, principal designer, and sustainable design consultancies. The designs were developed using Revit 3D software from the earliest stage. This proved invaluable in demonstrating the designs to the planning authorities and at the public consultation. This design approach is also an exceedingly helpful tool as it is used by the whole design team. This eases coordination between the various disciplines and minimises potential difficulties during the construction stage.
