With the continued growth of Colchester, and having regard particularly to the residential development around Highwoods; The Gilberd School’s enrolment continues to rise. The corridors were becoming very crowded especially as the majority are lined with some 1,500 locks hence exasperating the issue. Ingleton Wood were commissioned to come up with a creative solution to solve this problem. Our eventual innovative design sees the introduction of 5 elliptical shaped pods within the schools existing courtyard. The curved nature of these buildings allows the flow of students in between. Three large canopies over sail the locker pods and walkways creating interesting social spaces. The project was completed in March 2009.
