Ingleton Wood’s healthcare design team were appointed firstly by the NHS Trust as Lead Architect and then novated to the Contractor, under the SCAPE framework to undertake the design of a new Clinical Education Centre on the Bedford Hospital site. In 2019, we were asked by the NHS Trust to develop a new Education and Training centre, in a redundant part of the site housing former mental health in-patient bedroom accommodation. This building had laid vacant for some time and we were appointed as Lead Consultant to undertake the refurbishment of the Basement to form the new Medical Education and Training Centre. We designed the new facility to meet HBN Clinical standards, comprising a clinical simulation suite, clinical skills laboratory, large seminar room, meeting pods, classrooms, administration areas and student break-out spaces. We held extensive stakeholder workshops to inform the design and to ensure that the students had the best learning environment. Furthermore, we incorporated work with an A/V specialist to ensure full compatibility throughout with interactive screens and fully controllable LED lighting. Our interior design-led scheme was deliberately contemporary and was handed over on time and on budget in September 2020 to much acclaim.
