Alteration to existing property, Within a Conservation Area
Terraced House in Harrow on the Hill The property is located on an established residential cul de sac within the Harrow on the Hill conservation area built in 1890. The cul de sac is situated towards the top of a steep hill off West Street and includes similar terraced cottages. The property has some extended views at first floor level but it is also overlooked at the rear due to the elevated positions of the third party properties. The brief for the project was to preserve the Victorian style of the cottage and make the spaces appear larger and brighter, without any extension, protecting the intimacy while creating flexible rooms for a family of four. For this, materials (brick and mortar) and colours (gold and black) of the Victorian architecture were used. The stairs were opened to bring more light and space to the ground floor plan. Storage solutions were provided to utilise space efficiently and camouflage the utility room.
