The brief for this property was to rearrange the ground floor plan to maximize the existing space and to build a new extension at the back of the house. The program was to accommodate a kitchen, utility room, dining area, children’s ‘corner’, family room and some quiet space. As a family with young children, the program of the house was resolved by connecting the kitchen, the dining room and the children’s corner, creating a large entertaining space and an ample room for family activities. This open-plan space was linked to the rear garden by folding doors for an even bigger space to host parties. The old kitchen became a laundry room and the existing living room was left for quieter activities. The loft floor was removed to make the landing on the first floor more slender and bring more light to the core of the house.
