New Build, Brownfield site
Studio A, 18 Deacon Road , Kingston upon Thames , KT2 6LT , United Kingdom
Project inception, concept, planning and full design services through to completion, including a subsequent further project with the same client on another site. A new build, steel framed house set within a garden that was landscaped as part of the brief, to transform a former tennis club brownfield site. Conceptually based around an oak lined, inner bathhouse at the core of the building. Project constraints included a tight urban site, narrow access road and existing protected trees to be retained. Central large, retractable skylight with a series of full height bespoke feature glass walls commissioned for the project. Other unique components designed and commissioned for the scheme included a 6.7m long heated concrete bench and a 3m projecting brise soleil. The project included a biodiverse brown roof to replicate as far as is practical the ecological requirements for the local area. The natural habitat created on the roof supports a variety of plants, birds, animals and invertebrates. Photography – Thameside Media
