This house proposal sits on an infill site in the Berrylands suburb of Surbiton. Whilst the area is predominantly interwar detached housing the direct neighbours are larger victorian properties converted to flats. The bay window form is a repeating idiom and brickwork with slate roofs the palate. With some careful planning it has been possible to insert a whole independent house on the site. Whilst modest in comparison to its neighbours it is amply served with two bedrooms, open living space and an internal courtyard. At the front the enclosing glazed wall of the house is set back orthogonally. Sliding doors allow access to a Juliet balcony on the upper ground floor and the light well on the lower ground. The louvred screen provides privacy at night and shading throughout the day, and the softer appearance of timber blends in with the trees whilst the gaps between render the shape less substantial or intrusive. The roof form continues this pyramid shape and the remaining sedum roof improves views from any adjacent windows, and biodiversity continuation will be allowed for.
