New Build
IDP Group won the competition to design a new build three-form entry primary school, on a new site identified within a ‘New Communities’ residential development in Wokingham. The building has been designed to provide short-term flexibility through the use of folding screens to link/separate teaching spaces, a central learning street (‘The Woodland of Wisdom’, that connects all spaces and provides group learning) and specialist teaching spaces. The design also improves connection to the landscaped grounds. Long-term adaptability is designed into the scheme via a framed building solution. This enables non-loadbearing internal walls to be altered in the future without major disruption to the school. The design ensures major costs are minimised to the existing building and services infrastructure. The scheme design provides naturally ventilated and lit spaces, PV panels are utilized on the roof, an air source heat pump system, alongside a highly insulated building fabric, deliver an efficiently zoned and serviced building. The use of Green Guide A rated materials ensure a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rated building is achieved.
