IDP’s design provided the school with extension and remodelling works to provide facilities for an additional seven classrooms, however, ten were built with three existing classrooms remodelled to provide a new main entrance and administration area. The project also included a new enlarged staffroom facility and a library that acted as the link between the new and existing buildings. The new classrooms were paired (to reflect the 2FE year grouping) and interlinked by group rooms. A central double height learning street was created to provide a focus to the new building and create a connection between the first floor spaces and those at ground floor. A two-storey solution was required due to the small size of the existing site, and the new building was designed to future proof the site by allowing the existing to be demolished with minimal impact on the new building and existing/new play areas. The scheme meets the requirements of BREEAM ‘Very Good’, a strict requirement of the funding.
