An award winning development on an existing research facility completed by IBA, following an extensive feasibility study working closely with our client. The scheme provides individual Offices various Meeting Rooms, Archive facilities together with a dedicated Comms Room and Computer Recovery Suite. The scheme recently won an international award for its design in recognition of Reducing Climate Change. One of the driving principles in the design was to provide natural ventilation to all of the office areas, which resulted in sloping ceilings, high level windows and the distinctive roof profile. IBA were appointed as architects to undertake the development and worked closely from the outset, with the mechanical and electrical consultants and the structural engineer to develop the design to meet the client’s objectives. In addition to the principle of natural ventilation, the design made use of solar shading, intelligent automatic lighting controls and solar water heating to increase the energy efficiency of the new facility. Exacting standards of fire protection, sound insulation, close control temperature and humidity levels were required, which were all integrated into the overall design.
