IBA were commissioned to design a new detached dwelling for a private Client on the same site occupied by their current dwelling in order to maximise the potential of the plot. The existing dwelling was demolished to make way for a new 5 bedroom 5 bathroom dwelling built from traditional masonry materials including facing brickwork, natural stone plinths, string courses, entrance piers, projecting corbelling and water table and traditional timber sliding sash windows. A two storey frameless glazed wall in the centre of the building provides a mass of natural light into the double height feature entrance hall and provides uninterrupted views into the garden beyond. A curved sweeping stair (complete with ornamental balustrading) leads off into two directions from the entrance hall up to the first floor.
