An existing GP practice in Whitley Bay required new premises to expand into following an increase in their patient list and to provide additional services to the community and a site close to their existing premises on Marine Avenue was obtained. The site was a former Local Authority car park and part of the works required a replacement car park in addition to the medical centre which resulted in a challenging design to accommodate both as well as maintaining a sufficient distance away from a number of mature trees. The accommodation provided consulting rooms for 4GP’s, 2 treatment rooms, a minor surgery room, health visitor and baby clinic, a recovery room, district nursing and multi purpose rooms. Other non-clinical accommodation provides office and administration spaces as well as a generous patient record storage area. The building is predominantly 2 storey with the exception of the waiting area which is a double height space featuring a large glazed window to maximise the natural light and providing a welcoming aspect for all visitors and patients
