The client commissioned IBA to design a new indoor swimming pool as an extension to the Grade 2 listed Bavington Hall. The site chosen was the existing service entrance courtyard which was surrounded by a stone wall on three sides with attached outbuildings. The outbuildings were demolished but the stone wall had to be retained. IBA have designed a glulam framed structure which bridges over the retained stone wall to support a slated pitched roof and glazed between the top of the wall and the underside of the roof. The remaining wall is glazed to the courtyard. A lightweight glazed structure links the new pool to the existing house.
