Driven by the client’s appreciation for nature, Saule House provides seamless connections to its woodland setting, with generous glazing opening social spaces into the garden and an overhanging canopy that wraps the home to create unity. At its heart, a courtyard hearth becomes a stage for the Latvian summer solstice, where a rotated bronze staff casts the shadow of the sun symbol Saule. Inspired by Latvian culture and the fern as a personal symbol of growth, the design honours traditional bonfires lit on the shortest night of the year, celebrating heritage through light, nature, and ritual.
