Portal House is a zero-energy home on a steep, remote hillside overlooking the Irish Sea. The design responds to the plot’s ocean views with a sleek portal frame, which doubles as a unique outdoor living room for all seasons. A secret courtyard with a circular plunge pool is tucked towards the rear of the home. From here, glazing allows views through to the home’s dining space and the coast beyond. Timber sleeping pods surround this central dining area, providing a core social space for family gatherings. Elsewhere on the site, a cantilevered storm shelter offers a new perspective on the coastline.
