In most barns and working buildings how they stand up and resist building loadings is immediately apparent. Simple exposed structural elements show how this building works. The proposal seeks to maintain the majority of the enveloping structure of the building, highlighting these original elements as a feature in the design of the new internal lining, while stuck on purely pastiche timber work was removed. A new in-fill material of lapped timber boarding that picks up on the local vernacular river boats and the materiality of historic waterside sheds. A brick base resonates with the language of the bridge nearby, traditionally acting as a hard surface for wet marine work.
