Built in 1958 the sports pavilion had fallen out of use due to the damp, cold and uninviting feel created by low ceilings and cramped spaces. The project has transformed the internal space providing a new roof with tensile supports; The external facades were sensitively repaired keeping the original character. The goal of the renovation was to provide a hall, kitchen, servery and loos for private event hire putting a much needed resource back into community use. Douglas fir exposed rafters with cost effective tongue and groove pine cladding where employed to great effect along with natural rubber flooring and clay render together making a warm and inviting space. Air source heating was employed with specialist lighting, and new actuated rooflights. An external soft rubberized activity area blends seamlessly with the red of the internal rubber floor.
