Kensington and Chelsea
Listed Building - Grade II*, Within a Conservation Area
Pelham Crescent was designed by the architect George Basevi (a pupil of Sir John Soane). Basevi designed the Crescent in his elegant Graeco/Roman style, an architectural form made popular by the Royal Crescent in Bath and Park Crescent in London. The Crescent is amongst only a very rare number of Grade II* Listed properties in Kensington, reflecting it’s high heritage value. Thanks to many years of experience of designing alterations to historic buildings in Kensington and Chelsea, HUB were able to enter a meaningful dialogue with the Local Conservation officer in order to achieve a new basement beneath the rear garden and a two storey Orangery extension along with extensive and sympathetic internal alterations. The alterations preserve the original layouts and architectural features, while the new basement storey enables the owners to enjoy one single large contemporary designed space that would otherwise not be possible in a period house of this historic significance.
