29 Castle Hill , Lancaster , Lancashire , LA1 1YN , United Kingdom
The charming and characterful Castle View was commissioned by an existing client as an annex and guest accommodation in the grounds of their home. Situated in the centre of Lancaster, this urban retreat enjoys views of the city’s famous castle. It uses local stone tooling details on the stone reveals, reclaimed stone and timbers, and bespoke lintels to match historic detailing of the main house. Meanwhile, the floor is made from reclaimed scaffolding boards. Internally, the annex maximises space while creating an intimate environment in which guests can relax. Local materials and details are used wherever possible to respect the historic setting of the nearby castle and the existing house. The design also creates a unique experience for visitors as they discover secret rooms, an abundance of hidden storage and concealed cupboards. Other features include a huge copper bath, a wood burner and Pendle tweed window seats.
