HPA’s longstanding partnership with contemporary Lake District hotel Another Place began back in 2016, when we completed the extension and redevelopment of the original Rampsbeck Hotel. Set on the shores of Ullswater, we took the leading design role in the development of Outside – a collection of rooms and spaces within the grounds of the hotel, intended to bring guests closer to the wild. By utilising our multidisciplinary approach to successfully plan and outline each individual project for Another Place, we designed an impressive 70m squared treehouse, featuring two double bedrooms, bathroom, log burner, and large outdoor decking with a freestanding bathtub. Secluded by nature, the treehouse boasts striking floor-to-ceiling views of Ullswater and a walkway access between its three different sections. Designed with sustainability at its core, the treehouse is built on a wooden frame, using an eco-screw pile system as foundation. Other environmentally friendly features include reclaimed flooring and tiles, 100% renewable electricity, and heating generated from the hotel’s biomass boiler. We also collaborated with Blackdown Shepherd Huts to lead the planning process and site layout design for the installation of six new Shepherd Huts, which offer a unique connection to the lake whilst also retaining the luxury of its beautiful interiors, courtesy of Dynargh Design.
