New Build, Sited in AONB
The project was about replacing an existing 2 bed building with a 4 bed house. The project had to be done in 2 phases. The first phase was to construct a new car park on the site enabling to sell part of the property to get the finances for this project. Part 2 was to design this house onto the site. Because the site is on a slope and the garden is lower than the entrance we decided for a up side down design. The engineering on the site was quite substantial. The total length of the rear of the house is a high retaining wall of 3m. Also the foundations are founded on piles. With the timber cladding and the nice landscaping of this house make it blend into the landscape and is seen as a successful addition to lovely area of Feock. The interior was designed with the family. It was important to have a compact house with clever details, practical and good access to the garden. Very important was to create a balcony recessed into the house as the client do love the outdoors and standing outside under the roof viewing the garden and a stream. On the ground floor is the entrance, living room, dining room and kitchen / utility. On the lower ground floor are 4 bedrooms and a good size boiler room. The boiler room has good space for the heat pump and more space for the future. The floor throughout the property is a polished concrete floor with underfloor heating. This might sound a bird hard but actually with all the furniture and some rugs it creates a lovely warm floor, which is practical and not boring at all.
