Holmes Architects were approached to design a home car show garage for the owner's vintage car collection, and a high standard of finish was required to exhibit the cars. The show garage itself appears modest externally, replicating the existing barn conversion, whilst inside the interior is refined with quality lighting and polished surfaces to show off the cars. We sought preapplication advice from the council for a contemporary glass link orangery to connect the building to the converted barn, with bifold doors that fold back fully across both facades, maximising the connection with the garden. The orangery was removed following the preapplication advice feedback, and we submitted a planning application that focussed on the garage conversion to reduce the scale of the project.
