A highly relevant mixed-use scheme, The Fisheries in Hackney pays its dues to the fish market that once occupied its footprint, it is in every respect informed by the local, and possesses the edge and thrust of the area. Having lived in the area for 30 years, it is a classic example of client-lead design. Shrouding much of the building in a ‘net’ it doesn’t just look good, but feels good too. Home to co-working spaces and over 1000 indoor plants, it exists in a perfect balance of time and space: connected to the past yet absolutely of the present.
