Benenden School dedicates itself to the whole-person education of its students with music central to the curriculum. The concert halls design, materiality, and detailing contributing to a building in which the acoustics are favourably compared to those of international philharmonic halls. Its giant doors function not just as entrance, but also as sonic seal: when open, letting in the sound of the natural world; when closed, standing guard over acoustic perfection. Add to this the hall’s oval design reflecting the shape of the rose garden in which it sits, and we have a building made to give life to music.
