Remodelling and complete refurbishment of a multi level Grade II listed monastic church in Mirfield, West Yorkshire to create a sacred vessel for liturgical purposes. The process involved working closely with the Brethren of the Community of the Resurrection to design contemporary spaces specific to their celebration of the Divine Office - the Liturgy of the Hours. A key component of the project was the lighting design that allows various environments to be created for different times of worship. The renown of Community of the Resurrection meant the proposals were particularly sensitive. The Faculty Approval involved extensive consultations and negotiations, including our participation at a Consistory Court hearing. The project involved new heating, lighting and electrical systems, the adaptation of interior space to provide a more accessible worship space as well as redecoration and installation of new feature fittings, fixtures and artwork to compliment monastic worship.
