Low carbon bungalow

Dartmoor National Park Authority

Project Details

£250,000 to £499,999

Practice

hmad | architects

The Nook, Simmonds Place , Kingsmill Industrial Estate , Saunders Way , Cullompton , Devon , EX15 1BS , United Kingdom

The brief was to transform this existing bungalow, situated on the edge of Dartmoor, to create a spectacular low energy home with new first floor accommodation and improved connection to the gardens. The design also incorporates several renewable energy technologies: solar thermal (for hot water), air source heat pump (for heating), whole house mechanical ventilation with heat recovery (mvhr), and a log burner (to reduce consumption of ‘non-renewable’ energy). The Client's energy bills have been significantly reduced. The Client said: “The continued support of hmad | architects led us through a difficult planning application process. The design evolved as we considered their impressive modelled images. The attention to detail has been excellent.” Photographs by Tim Prestridge.
