Sheffield Hallam University is considering the redevelopment of sites within it’s City Campus in Sheffield. These sites comprise a significant footprint for development, shaping not only the University itself, but a large section of the urban fabric of Sheffield. HLM won the bid to develop options studies for these sites and consider the wider estates strategy and their context within the City. The proposals initially look at the whole of the City Campus for Sheffield Hallam University, analysing the existing state and the development opportunities across the campus to rationalise the estate and improve the student experience. The masterplan then focused on 3 specific sites, looking at overall context, physical and planning constraints in order to develop site options. These are simple massing studies that show how new-build elements and refurbishment of the existing estate could be used to rationalise facilities. The proposals identified massing, possible accommodation levels, and potential palettes of materials in order for outline planning to be obtained should this be required. The final options could provide up to 43,000 m2 of accommodation, and includes a new urban square and extensive landscaping across the campus
