The main objective of the scheme is to bring the Airseeker project to RAF Waddington to sustain the UK's airborne electronic surveillance capability, currently provided by the Nimrod R1 aircraft to provide a rapidly deployable capability to support national, joint and coalition operations. The project comprises 2 elements Firstly an extension of approximately 1000m2 at the South End of Hangar 5 to accommodate the RC135 Airframe. Secondly, a new build 1900m2 annex in close proximity to Hangar 5 for the operational support of Airseeker and also to act as a ground support training facility. The critical functions within the annex building are an Operation Support and Mission Preparation Office, Simulation Rooms, Operator Workstations Training Facility, as well as other classrooms, offices and server/hub rooms The building is designed in accordance with the Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities (SCIF) construction criteria including; Construction Security, Perimeter Wall, Floor and Ceiling, SCIF Door and Windows, SCIF Perimeter Penetrations, Alarm Response Time, as well as Secure and Temporary Working. The project is due to start on site in October 2013 and is due for completion at the end of September 2014
