New Build
Hill Reading Architects Limited
Coach House Studio , 34 Chamberlain Street , Wells , Somerset , BA5 2PJ , United Kingdom
The project involved the provision of a new 58 bedroomed hotel at the site of the Wookey Hole Caves tourist attraction which is close to Wells in Somerset. The site is on land previously occupied by a disused outside swimming pool and an adjacent restaurant/cafeteria, and located to link the main visitor car park to the entrance to the caves attraction. The intention is to be able to offer visitors to Wookey Hole the chance to extend their stay and in doing so provide comfortable luxury accommodation including restaurant and bar facilities. The building is of 2 storey’s built in traditional construction utilising local materials including local stone, render and timber cladding. Incorporated in the design was the “Witches Hat”, a conical tower housing a luxury suite intended to depict the legendary Witch of Wookey.
