Listed Building - Grade II

Practice

Hetreed Ross Architects Ltd

Bath Brewery , Toll Bridge Road , Batheaston , BATH , Somerset , BA1 7DE

Hetreed Ross Architects added a glazed extension to a Grade 2 listed kent farmhouse dating from 1694. They undertook careful negotiations with the local planning department to obtain Listed Building Consent. The new space provides a living area surrounded by glazed walls to provide a seamless transition into the garden. Above, a roof terrace with frameless glass balustrade gives an alternative seating area with extended panoramic views. Although the extension is contemporary in style, the copper fascias visually connect well with the brick and clay colour pallet of the Kent farmhouse. Strong simple forms work well with the sculptural form of the original roof.
