Lake District National Park
£250,000 to £499,999
Alteration to existing property, New Build, Sited in AONB, Sited in SSSI area
A new build Passivhaus close to the shore of Ullswater in the English Lake District. The brief was to demolish the existing 1950s temporary system-built bungalow, which had no architectural merit and was at end of life, and replace it with a state-of-the-art three bedroom house which maximised the stunning views. The new house respects its breathtaking location in the heart of the Lake District National Park and World Heritage Site, whilst creating a modern comfortable home. Tethera is the third house in a row of three bungalows and the planning requirement was for the new house to have a similar footprint, volume and appearance as existing bungalows. The design is elegant, calm and robust and has been designed for minimal maintenance in a harsh environment. The insulated timber frame was manufactured locally and installed in a day and a half. Full services were provided and the project was completed in 2022 and achieved Passivhaus certification.
