The client wanted to reorganise the rear of this attractive Victorian house to form a kitchen, dining area and family space with a much closer integration to the mature garden. The significant level difference between the house and garden resulted in numerous design options, including models and sketches, to help the client decide on the best solution for their family. An elegant and simple layout was chosen with a large kitchen and dining space that opened up to generous steps leading down to the large garden. The design and construction details were developed to Passivhaus principles, with a simple timber frame, woodfibre insulation, excellent airtightness and a mechanical ventilation system. Other internal alterations extended across all three floors and included practical changes to the internal layout to maximise space and light. Full services were provided to the client including developing the brief, planning and conservation area consents, full working drawings and contract administration on site.
