The Old Telephone Exchange , Albert Street , RUGBY , Warwickshire , CV21 2SA , United Kingdom
The project was to extend an existing historic farm house with a contemporary extension featuring both a master bedroom suite, ground floor living space and landscaped entertaining area. Based just south of Rugby, Warwickshire the old farm house was a timber framed and thatched historic building therefore it was deemed appropriate that the design of the extension would be contemporary in order to suitably contrast the existing. The design creates a juxtaposition with the existing farm house both contrasting against the historical brickwork but not having a detrimental effect to its surrounding environment. The facade uses alternating thicknesses of red cedar, creating similar colour tones to the original house. It's massing replicates the existing gable with a steeper pitch in a Scandinavian style, linked but disconnected with a slimline glass link.
