£5m to £9.99M
HMY were appointed by Fort Pitt Academy in 2011 to carry out numerous projects on the site. HMY were instrumental in obtaining over £5.5m funding from EFA (Education Funding Agency) to carry out compliance upgrade works to the existing fabric and replace their existing dilapidated labs and create a new 6th form centre. The school site is on a former fort and latterly a military hospital and fort site dating back to the Napoleonic Wars. There are two grade II listed buildings on the site and the entire school is designated an Ancient Monument. An options appraisal was carried out to measure and ascertain the best and least contentious location for the new building so that the impact on the listed buildings and the military remains could be mitigated. HMY organised and carried out extensive consultation and application processes with both Historic England, Conservation Officers, local Planning Officers, Archaeologists, Acousticians, Neighbours and the school end users. A crucial part of the process was the extensive Archaeology and Historic fabric surveys and investigations all of which were carried out by key consultants under the direction and management of HMY.
