Tealby Tank House – Paragraph 79 This site is located in the county of Lincolnshire in the village of Tealby The site contains an old redundant reservoir tank previously used by Anglian Water. Our previous experience gaining planning permission for the reservoir tank at Old Dalby led to this commission. We were commissioned by the client to undertake designs to convert an existing redundant water tank into a residential dwelling. The brief was to create accommodation for a dwelling that could sit with the landscape of the open countryside whilst utilising the existing built form of the tank as the starting point for the design. Initial Pre Application advice was undertake that suggested we consult with the design group Opun due to the requirements of the building needing meet Paragraph 79 of the NPPF. Opun have provided some initial feedback on the scheme so that the design can be truly exceptional in order to meet the criteria set out in the NPPF. The concept of the building is derived from the surrounding ploughed fields and this has then informed the external appearance of the dwelling in order to reflect the context of the landscape. The building takes on an industrial form which is derived from other disused buildings in the area and again the geology of the site. Due to the tight site, 20 x 20M, the design has been carefully considered to maximize every aspect of the internal layout. The design also incorporates, light shafts and voids to replicate the feeling of the existing underground tank structure. The new dwelling is eco friendly in the basic use of retaining the tank and creating a highly insulated building above ground. The application is about to be submitted for planning approval following further consultation with Opun.
