Hawkland have provided services from concept through to completion, including a planning application, technical design pack and on site construction support. The original concept brief was to design a residential straw bale dwelling house in close collaboration with the client, on a site with existing planning permission for a modern dwelling. The position of the building was to take advantage of the sites slope to provide views across the surrounding country side, take advantage of the orientation and sun path, and to design building systems with specialist designers for Solar PV, MVHR, and a wet land drainage system with composting toilets. The design balances the use of natural materials to benefit from their qualities and a high thermal and airtight performance.
