Somerset

£1m to £1.99M
We have provided full architectural services for a radical retrofit project in North Somerset. The client wanted to turn a property which had been converted into two flats back into one house. Their aim was to enhance the property with natural materials and sustainable systems, whilst cutting down on construction waste. The changes to the building were designed to take advantage of the spectacular views across the countryside, to enact thermal and building performance improvements, and to alter the building and install facilities for better accessibility. The property has been reimagined with all of the sleeping accommodation at ground floor, including fully wheelchair accessible bedrooms, and adaptable rooms. Living accommodation has been moved fully to the first floor with large structural changes made to open the main kitchen dining room out for a larger living space. A new balcony and large glazed doors have been designed to connect this space directly to the surrounding countryside. The building has been improved with internal wood fibre insulation, airtightness improvements, new windows, and ASHP and UFH system within a limecrete floor, MVHR through the property, and a large standing seam solar panel roof. Completion is expected early 2026.
